The first away game of the season is the short trip up the A50, as the Rams take on Stoke City.

Stoke will be anxious to open their points account after their 1-0 defeat at Southend on Saturday, whilst Derby will be looking to remain unbeaten and attempt to chalk up their first victory of the season.

Vital Quotes:

Stoke City Team News:

Stoke suffered a double injury blow when wide men Peter Sweeney & Luke Chadwick both went off at Southend, the latter going to hospital suffering from dehydration. Chadwick has however recovered and is likely to play some part, whereas Sweeney’s fractured wrist means he will miss out.

Guinea international Sammy Bangoura has reported back from his self imposed exile, however he is unlikely to feature.

Player to watch: John Eustace

Always looked impressive when I’ve seen him, however his lack of match fitmess may mean he starts on the bench.

Derby County Team News:

No major injury worries for Derby boss Billy Davies, however new team captain Matt Oakley will be pushing for a starting place, possibly at the expense of midfield playmaker Inigo Idiakez. Steve Howard is likely to continue as a lone frontman, ably supported by Giles Barnes. It is also possible that at least 1 new face may be added to the squad in time for the match, with Celtic’s Stephen Pearson seemingly on the verge of a move to Pride Park.

Player to watch: Giles Barnes

After his impressive display against Southampton on Sunday, lets hope for more of the same from the 18 year old wonderkid.

Match Facts & Stats

Match Prediction:

For Stoke, the lack of a genuine goal threat(assuming they’re without Bangoura) must be of real concern – I predict a 2-0 win for the Rams!!!
