Rams first league opponents lose friendly

|

Derby County’s first league opponents in the 2018-19 season Reading hoped to get a good start in pre-season by arranging a friendly against non-league Eastleigh FC. Things didn’t turn out the way former Rams boss Paul Clement expected as 738 fans watched on in the summer sunshine.

A goal from the Spitfires (Eastleigh FC) in the 14th  minute by Paul McCallum had Reading on the back foot as both teams sweltered in the heat of the afternoon. A lead which Eastleigh would hold until the half-time interval.

Despite numerous attacks, Reading took until the 78th minute to equalise when Leandro Bacuna, their Dutch midfielder slotted home.

The game at the Silverlake Stadium looked to be heading for a draw but a late winner came from Eastleigh’s Ben Williamson, his goal in the 86th minute gives Paul Clement a lot to think about before his side entertains Derby County in the televised opening game to the Championship season on Friday, August 3rd, just 33 days away.
