No Deal, For Now

Scott Neilson featured for Derby in Thursday’s 0-0 draw with Torquay United, but the trialist isn’t going to be offered a contract by Nigel Clough, not at the moment anyway.

Clough will monitor the Cambridge City winger but as he’s not a player that would challenge strongly enough for the first-team at the moment the Rams boss has decided not to follow up the initial interest.

“Scott did OK and we will probably monitor his progress

He certainly did not look out of place coming into the team and in training.

I think at the moment if we are going to get anybody, ideally we want them to be challenging for a place in the first-team squad.

We have got the development squad and we could still do with adding one or two to that but Cambridge will want a fee for him and we are not in the market for that at the moment.”

Clough was talking to the Evening Telegraph.

The 22-year old, a former Norwich youngster, will now return to Southern League club Cambridge City but this might not be for too long as Norwich are believed to be interested in taking him back to Carrow Road, and Neilson has already returned to his former club for a trial this summer.
