Mexican club Cruz Azul are claiming that Tito Villa is going to be joining them after they agreed a fee with Derby.

“We have reached an agreement with Derby County of England for the transfer of Emanuel Villa, who will arrive today (Tuesday) to undergo a medical.”

Read a statement, released by Cruz Azul.

The striker thinks that the move to Mexico will be good for him.

“I have been with Derby for a year and a half and I think that I had good and bad moments.

Now I have been approached by Cruz Azul and I got interested in their project because I think it’s ambitious and I like that.

They told me that they need a striker of my characteristics because I have already played in Mexico so I have accepted.”

The Argentinean also believes that the move to Cruz Azul isn’t a backwards one.

“I don’t think that I am taking a step back leaving England to play in Mexico because I consider the Mexican league as very serious and competitive, especially playing at a team like Cruz Azul.”

Villa was talking to skysports.com.

Villa has had a poor time, on the whole, during his 18-months with Derby and has proven to be an expensive Paul Jewell flop with Nigel Clough already making it clear to Villa that he isn’t part of his plans, so this doesn’t come as a surprise at all.
