Conor Sammon has joined Derby County for a fee believed to be around the £1.2million mark putting pen to paper on a four year deal and will go straight into The Rams squad for the trip to the Reebok Stadium tomorrow night.

Nigel Clough has made no secret of the fact that he wanted to bring another striker to the club and first tried to sign Sammon from Kilmarnock eighteen months ago during the winter transfer window. At the time the Irishman opted to join Wigan Athletic but with Derby looking to bring in another striker to bolster their attacking options Clough has finally got his man.

With the sale of Chris Maguire to Sheffield Wednesday and the long mooted transfer of Steve Davies away from Pride Park The Rams frontline was looking thin on the ground but Sammon`s addition will give Clough the big striker he was looking for. Talking to the Derby Evening Telegraph about the deal Clough said:

“When we first drew up a list of potential options with regards to bringing in a new striker it`s fair to say Conor was top of the list, our number one target actually, so we`re delighted to announce his arrival.”
