At least Greg Mills is happy, and I do mean this I’m not being sarcastic towards him in any way.

The 19-year-old, a product of our youth system, came on to make his Derby debut at Middlesbrough on Tuesday and he was delighted to do this and left “buzzing” with excitement.

“I’m happy that I’ve made my debut against players who have played in the Premier League and I’ve had my chance to show a few of the fans what I can do.

I thought I might get on for the last 20 minutes and the manager told me to warm up, so I am absolutely buzzing. I couldn’t wait for the ball to go out of play while I was waiting to come on.”

Mills was talking to the Evening Telegraph.

Our ever increasing injury crisis had opened the door to the young forward who had to be recalled from his loan spell with Solihull Moors last week to help us cope with this. During this loan he had scored four goals in four matches and could now be given more opportunities following this debut.

I’m happy for Mills, and it’s always good to see youth players come through, but I wish his chance could’ve come in happier circumstances and not so much out of necessity!
