Derby have turned things around after a poor start to the Championship season, but chairman Andy Appleby has said that his job was never under threat despite speculation that it was.

‘There wasn’t even a question of my support or Adam Pearson’s support for Paul.

‘Even after the Southampton game there were a lot of folks calling for him to be ousted but we didn’t feel that was fair to Paul or that it was a smart business decision because he has a record of being a fine manager.’

Appleby was talking to the Evening Telegraph.

I’d be lying if I hadn’t questioned Jewell after our awful start to the season, but I’m glad that he has virtually proved us wrong and shown that he is the right man to take us forward again.
