Rams youngster finds a new Holmes

Rams young winger Lee Holmes has joined League one side Walsall on-loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old was touted as a star in his early years but has failed to make the next step to regular first team football. He has been an unused substitute for the Rams twice in recent weeks but hasn’t tasted first-team action since the last day of 2005/06.

The Saddlers sit in joint fourth spot on the table only four points from leaders Swansea and Coach Richard Money hopes Holmes can give his side a lift for their promotion push. He will join former Rams players Paul Boertien and Tommy Mooney at the Bescot Stadium.

Holmes made his debut for the Rams on Boxing Day 2002 against Grimsby Town and broke the record for the youngest ever Derby player, aged 15 years and 267 days.

Also that season he became the youngest player ever to play in the proper rounds of the FA Cup, a record since broken by Luke Freeman of Gillingham.

He has made 52 appearances for the club and scored two goals. The deal is signed and agreed, and is just awaiting Premier League clearance.
