Nigel Clough wants to sign more players and Clough has also hinted that Derby will increase the offer for Shaun Barker but just how much will we up this by?

We’ve already seen offers of around £500,000 rejected for the 26-year-old and Blackpool say they’re not looking to sell Barker but with him entering the final year of his contract unless he signs a new one they’ll be getting nothing next summer, or a minimal amount in January.

A Vital Derby poll saw 75% vote unanimously against increasing an offer to as much as £1m, with Blackpool believed to be commanding as much as this, but an offer of £700,000 might do the trick. The question is just how much is too much for Barker? If £700,000 is a fair price, and within our budget, then that’s something that I’d expect us to do as we do need another defender but does he fit the bill?

Crewe’s 21-year-old John Brayford is still believed to be an option and could come cheaper, as well as being younger with greater potential. Barker has the advantage of plenty of Championship experience though.
