Derby, and of course Stephen Pearson himself, have been dealt a cruel blow with the news that he will be out for up to four months following knee surgery.

Paul Jewell knows that this is the case (a blow for all concerned), but was slightly prepared for it as the knee has been troubling him for a while and has required pain-killing injections to see him through.

‘It is a blow to Stephen and us.

‘He has had a problem for a while and has been playing with the help of an injection.

‘The operation went very well but it is a serious injury and will probably keep him out for three to four months.’

Jewell was talking to the official website.

The 26-year-old had forced his way back into Jewell’s thoughts, and been playing but now he will have to sit on and watch as he slips down the pecking order again.
