John Oster is to stay with Derby for a second week, and should he come through this successfully he is on course to be offered a permanent contract by Paul Jewell.

‘Rotherham was John’s first game since he played for Reading against us in the final game of last season.

‘Rotherham was a nightmare match for him to play in.

‘It was not really his type of game but at least he has got 90 minutes in. He will train with us again this week and I’ll have a chat with him.’

Jewell was talking to the Evening Telegraph.

The 29-year-old was given thirty minutes against Burton last week and played the full ninety against Rotherham on Saturday and is likely to be given another chance against Oldham on Wednesday.

Jewell is still looking for extra cover on the right side of midfield so this appears to be Oster’s for the taking, if he can impress this week.
