Derby County is looking to sell Captain Curtis Davies to a rival Championship side if rumours are to be believed.

Curtis Davies wore the Captains armband toward the end of last season as the Rams jst missed out on the Championship playoff final.

The Rams Captain is wanted by former boss Gary Rowett at newly relegated Stoke City but the Rams are likely to play hardball with Stoke and would look to collect around £3m for the former Hull City man.

If the sale does go through Derby would look to replace Davies who is 33 years of age with John Terry, the 37-year-old former Chelsea Captain and close friend of Frank Lampard.

Terry has won 14 major titles whilst at Chelsea, including 5 Premier League, 4 FA Cup and 1 European Cup title. His experience and guile would make up for the fact he will reach 38 years of age before the turn of the year.  As a direct replacement for Davies, Terry would look to be ideal.

John Terry former Chelsea and England Captain could be an ideal replacement if Curtis Davies is sold to Stoke City

Another stumbling block to the deal may be Terry’s wage demands, it is thought he will take a huge reduction to join his friend at Derby but how much of a drop will he accept from the £60,000 per week he was on at Aston Villa last season? The Derby County top earners were on half of that fee last season.

Should Terry take a drop to £30,000 per week Derby County could come out of the deal with nearly £2m in the bank and a very able replacement in John Terry?

Stay tuned for more news on this and more transfers in the coming weeks.

  • Why do we need John Terry, he is 37 years old and has no longer got the pace and ability required in the Championship. Having been to all 3 matches when we played Aston Villa it was quite obvious what his limitations are. It is agreed by the majority of supporters that we desperately need a younger defence,
buying or paying a huge salary to a player living off his name and past abilities will not resolve this problem.
Other clubs seem capable of finding these players either within the uk or abroad surely with Frank Lampard contacts we should be able to do this??

  • Can’t argue with the pace but certainly still has the ability and plenty of experience as a Captain. The plain fact is we need a replacement if, as seems likely now, Davies is the subject of a £3m bid from Stoke. The fact that Terry is a close personal friend of Lampard and respected by him will also make the deal more certain and favourable to his and many others eyes.

Of course nothing has been forthcoming from the club and unless we receive and accept the offer for Davies I don’t think there will be any movement for Terry, we simply can’t afford him, but the £2m profit we make will offset Terry’s wages and as he is a free agent, it must surely be the only way to go?

  • i understand it when u say j t is old ,but old comes with valued experience ,taking nothing away from curtis davies he is solid ,also matej vydra should stay .
