Johnson only made his second start of the season last Tuesday night in the 2-1 victory against QPR, but he did enough to keep his starting place on Saturday against Birmingham. Johnson once again shone in this match, and is hoping to cement his place in the side.

He told Derby’s official site:

‘I started off the season but then I was out of the team for a while’, the 27 year old said.

‘The manager has given a chance so it’s up to me to stay in there and make it hard it hard for him to leave me out.

‘I thought I did well against Birmingham so I’ve got to keep that up, keep my work-rate up, and hopefully we’ll keep picking the results up and I’ll stay in the team.

We’ve got a decent squad now and the good thing is we have got a lot of people competing for places.

You’ve just got to look all the way through – people being left out at the moment are quality players so it is only healthy for everyone.’

Johnson also went on to say that team spirit is good at the moment.

‘We’ve got a great spirit here.

‘All the lads want to do well for each other and that has shown in a lot of the games, especially away from home when we haev to dig deep.

‘We have got a lot of character within the squad and we have got to continue with that at Cardiff on Saturday.

Hopefully, Seth will put in another good performance for The Rams on Saturday, and help Derby continue their rise towards the play off places.

Derby currently lie 11th in the table.
