Will Hughes is proud of his first full season for Derby County that included international recognition, an extended run in the side and another year added to his contract.

The young midfielder was looking to be involved in and around the squad last season but having impressed in pre-season he started in The Rams first game and kept his place in the side for virtually every game until a groin injury side-lined him in February. In total Hughes made thirty-eight appearances scoring twice for Derby and also became the second youngest England Under-21 international when he made his debut against Northern Ireland in November. In the same month he was named the Football League`s Young Player of the Month and his form also saw him pick up the club`s Young Player of the Season award. Talking to dcfc.co.uk about the season Hughes said:

‘This season has been a whirlwind and it is weird how fast everything has happened for me, I just could not see that. Over the last 12 months everything has rocketed. Having made my debut the previous season, I was really hoping for a place on the bench, but as soon as I started a few games, it gave me the taste of first-team action and I wanted to go on and play even more. Being out injured gave me time to rest and hopefully, I will come back even fitter and stronger for pre-season.”
