Mark Fotheringham has started his trial with Derby.

The former Norwich midfielder has been linked with a lot of clubs but declared weeks back that he’d be coming to Derby for a spell during pre-season and the 25-year-old will spend this week at Moor Farm, ending the week with pre-season friendly with Burton. This is a match in which Nigel Clough expects Fotheringham to feature in, as he may well do a practice match on Thursday.

“We are looking to have a practice match on Thursday in-house and he will be involved at Burton on Saturday.

Taking a look at players is all part of pre-season.”

Clough was talking to the Evening Telegraph.

Fotheringham, a former Scotland U21 international, has been around Europe during his career to date, starting his career with Celtic before moving to his hometown club Dundee. Spells in Germany at SC Freiburg and Switzerland with FC Aarau came before he joined Norwich in 2007.

Coventry had been interested in Fotheringham, but he said earlier in the summer that he wanted to keep his options open and this is believed to have seen him already spend a week on trial with Spanish club Espanyol.

James Hall is another that is expected at Moor Farm for a trial. The 19-year-old midfielder plays for Everton but hasn’t made a first-team breakthrough with the Premier League side yet.
