Middlesbrough failed with a deadline day swoop for Rob Hulse and this was because the Derby striker didn’t want to leave Pride Park.

A £3.5m offer from earlier in the day was increased to £4m towards the end of Tuesday’s transfer window in an attempt to tempt the striker away from Derby, but when given the option to decide what to do by Nigel Clough Hulse decided that staying with us is what he wanted.

“It was flattering and a big price tag, but something just didn’t seem right about moving. I am very happy where I am.

They [the club] were trying to let me know what was going on all day, but I’m just happy to still be at Derby County and we have got it resolved.

I know where my future lies and I’m just relieved about that.”

Hulse was talking to the Evening Telegraph.

The former Sheffield United striker, who has proven by far former Rams boss Paul Jewell’s best signing, is now looking to get himself 100% match fit and back in the goals and hopes that these can send us up the table.

Hulse could’ve easily left but the fact that he didn’t want to, and we were happy to let him decide this without forcing him, speaks volumes!
