Nigel Clough’s attempts to bring in a new striker have now seen him consider, and reveal, many names the latest being Leicester’s Matty Fryatt.

The 24-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular place with Leicester since they made it into the Championship and this has seen reports that Derby had made a loan approach for him that was rejected.

However, despite admitting an interest, Clough has denied that an offer has been made to our local rivals but he’s open to making an offer if he’s given the indication Fryatt’s available.

“Yes, he is a player we rate highly, in the James Vaughan, Chris Wood mould. Ben Davies is another one – they are all players we are looking at and monitoring.

We have not made an approach for Matty Fryatt. He is in Leicester’s squad at the moment.

There might have been a phone call in terms of asking if anything happens to keep us informed but we don’t class that as an offer on the table.

If he does become available, then we would like to be in there.”

Clough was talking to the Derby Evening Telegraph.
