Clough Fumes At Non-Penalty

Derby slipped to a fourth successive defeat, when we lost 1-0 at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Nigel Clough thought that we had some good chances but was most incensed that we weren’t awarded an injury-time penalty when Kris Commons was fouled, a foul that would’ve seen a free kick awarded had it happened anywhere else.

“I thought we created the two best chances of the game and thought we had an absolute blatant penalty in the 92nd minute.

Anywhere else on the pitch, a late tackle on Kris Commons, and he the referee gives a foul.

When you have seen a player taken off on a stretcher after he’s had a shot, I don’t think there’s any argument that that can be a fair challenge.”

Clough was talking after the defeat.

I’d be, arguably, more furious at the lack of a red card shown to Palace goalkeeper Julian Speroni who was only shown a yellow card when he clearly, and quite deliberately, handled the ball outside the penalty area. Had Speroni been sent off, like he should’ve been, he wouldn’t have been on the pitch to have made several superb saves to have denied up!
