Bent To Be First Signing?

Darren Bent could be Derby County`s first signing of the summer with summer recruitment looking to kick-in before confirmation of the new Head Coach is announced.

Bent spent the second half of last season on loan at the iPro Stadium and made a big impression scoring 12 goals in 17 appearances but it was not enough as The Rams fell just short in their aim of promotion after collapsing to finish just outside of the play-off spots. With Steve McClaren relieved of his duties on Monday it looked as though recruitment might have to wait but reports suggest a deal for Bent is close with Chief Executive Sam Rush telling Radio Derby:

‘Our recruitment is a stand-alone department, so we are in a very good position. Clearly the head coach has to be part of that and we are not providing players he doesn’t want, but lots of the work is in place. I am confident we will get the recruitment process right in relation to the new head coach and I am confident the squad that will assembled will be a very strong squad.
