With the Rams playing arguably their most important game of the season this afternoon, we give our view on the team and formation most likely to give the Rams the edge against Middlesbrough.
Derby County of late have looked tired and leggy, so we have brought in vitality and attacking flair with Luke Thomas. His forward running could unsettle defenses and his vitality would freshen up the Rams forward line.
At the back we have a back three, bringing Andre Wisdom from his right back role into the central defender’s position. This was where he played for Red Bull Salzburg, winning a League and Cup double in the Austrian Bundesliga. Alongside Wisdom we have Alex Pearce and Curtis Davis giving a solid looking back line.
Captain Richard Keogh would be brought back into the starting line up but in a slightly different role to the one he has previously had in the side. Playing now slightly in front of the back three, he would have scope to go on penetrating runs without the need to worry too much about leaving his defensive role. He would also be in a position to help the defence out when needed.Alongside Keogh we have Tom Huddlestone, again he has scope to play balls up to the front players but is also available for defensive duties in the midfield area.
More vitality as we said in the attacking midfield areas with Kasey Palmer wide left and as previously stated Luke Thomas, Both players lively and able to stretch defences.
The two attacking midfielders would allow more space for Tom Lawrence in a central or roving area behind the front two to run into. Lawrence put this position to good effect when playing for Ipswich last season.
I have partnered Matej Vydra up front with Cameron Jerome, again making use of pace which Jerome has and his height in and around the box.
So there you have it! Hopefully we will see something similar today from Gary Rowett and give the team a fresh and hopefully more energetic look about it.
