Frank bouncing but not getting carried away with the Rams good start to the season

Sang the Carpenters in 1970 and has been echoed this week by Frank Lampard as the Rams enter the first week of a two-week International break.

Lampard wasn’t referring to the Carpenters number one single but to the start his Derby County squad has made to the 2018-19 Championship season. Derby now sits in 4th place and although Lampard wanted a good start to his managerial career he hadn’t anticipated that the squad would sit in 4th place in the table.

There is a note of caution however from Lampard, despite four wins from the sides six Championship games, he said “all we have done is have a good start” and went on to say, “Six games is a short period, there is a long way to go”.

Derby has had wins against Reading, Ipswich Town, Preston North End and Hull City in the league. On another note of caution, it has to be pointed out all of these teams are near the foot of the Championship table. Preston is the highest team in the table at 19th, Reading and Ipswich sit in the bottom two positions in the league, having not won a game this season so far.

The 4th position the Rams have at present is two points better than at this point last season. Derby have won one more game than in 2017-18 but are in the same 4th position as last season.
