Jason Shackell was voted Man of the Match by Vital Derby readers for his performance in the Capital One Cup defeat to Portsmouth.

On a night to forget for Paul Clements’ side Shackell polled 50% of the votes for his showing as he marshalled the Derby defence. A howler from Lee Grant gave Pompey the advantage before Shackell scored his first goal since returning to The Rams in the summer with a header from a corner. The parity didn’t last long with Conor Chaplin giving the League Two side the win only two minutes later.

Shackell was one of the few bright points for Derby on the night and the fact that two substitutes came second and third for the part they played in the brief spell The Rams had sums up the evening. The voting was as follows:

Jason Shackell – 50%
George Thorne – 30%
Tom Ince – 10%
