Varney Set To Move On

Luke Varney looks as though he may have found himself a new club the news that Portsmouth have tabled a bid, believed to be just north of £750,000, for the former Charlton Athletic striker. Varney, who spent the vast majority of last season on loan at then Premiership side Blackpool, looks set to complete the switch later this week with the two sides reportedly in talks over the deal. Having made it clear that Varney was not part of his future plans Nigel Clough is happy to let the striker leave Pride Park and he is not the only player set to move on with Chief Executive Tom Glick telling the Derby Evening Telegraph:

‘There are probably half a dozen players right now that are tapped to move on to other clubs. We expect to be working on those with the players and their agents over the course of the summer. There certainly has been interest and we will have to see how that unfolds.’
