Luke Varney landed on his feet at the back end of last week as he got a move to a Premier League club, joining Blackpool on loan for the season.

The 27-year-old is someone that Blackpool boss Ian Holloway was happy to capture and believed would fit in well with the Premier League new boys.

“He is a great lad, he has got some pace and I think he’ll play really well in a 4-3-3 formation.

He is a fantastic lad off the field – I think he will just slot straight in to our system and hopefully I can get him going again.”

Holloway was talking to BBC Radio Lancashire.

In typical fashion Varney opened his Blackpool account on his debut scoring a quality goal and also looked to cause Fulham problems all afternoon from the highlights that I saw.

However, it’s not unusual for a player to score on debut it’s what happens in the matches that follow that will determine so much, however, that would also be typical if he went on a run of goals after struggling to find the net for us in two-years when he played only 10 matches for the Rams, much of that time was spent out on loan though.

Blackpool do have the option to sign the striker if they want at the end of the loan.
