Dean Smith is now favourite for the Rams managers job

Derby County finds itself searching for a new manager following the departure of Gary Rowett yesterday. The new incumbent will be the Rams 7th new manager in little over two years since the departure of Paul Clement in February 2016.

The Rams face a tough challenge to bring in a manager who will almost certainly need to bring in fresh faces to the club but will have a very small or non-existent budget to achieve the task.

Several names have been talked about and Mick McCarthy former Republic of Ireland manager, England U17 World Cup manager and former Rams player and assistant manager, Paul Simpson. Rams Favourite and former Captain Igor Stimac and former Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea boss Carlos Carvalhal.

Paul Simpson (left), could he return? Don’t think the guy on the right is in the running.

Other names in the running and now bookies favourite for the job is Dean Smith the present Brentford manager. The 47-year-old has produced a Brentford side which finished in 9th place in the Championship this season and is used to producing attractive attacking sides on a shoestring budget.

Betting on the new Rams manager is now Smith 2/1, Paul Simpson and Martin O’Neill 4/1, Carlos Carvalhal 8/1, Mick McCarthy 10/1 and Igor Stimac 14/1
