Derby are in action at home once again, keen to build on the superb home win over Blackpool before the biggest home game of the season: the rearranged clash against Nottingham Forest.
Watford provide the opposition and are a youthful outfit who have done remarkably well with limited resources to sustain such a high performance level.
They sit on 44 points, two behind The Rams, and in 16th place, again two places behind Derby, albeit having played a game more.
Rams coach Andy Garner has insisted that the players focus on the task in hand and not the Forest game in the week: ‘The fans might be talking about Forest but there is a serious job to do on Saturday – we can look no further ahead than the Watford game,’ said Garner.
‘Watford are in decent form and it is another hard game.
‘We want to build on our last two results We beat Blackpool and we want to keep winning.
‘The crowd was magnificent against Blackpool and I’m sure there will be just as many on Saturday.
‘We want another good result for them.
‘We will look after Tuesday when it comes.’
The Rams Team News:
Jason Shackell’s thigh injury should not prevent him from featuring against Watford but it is a concern nontheless.
Jamie Ward is not fit and will not be facing Watford or Nottingham Forest. A real blow.
Player to watch: Steven Davies
After three goals in two games Davies will be a marked man on Saturday.
He was superb against Blackpool and looked like a quality player at this level, with high-confidence and great shooting ability.
The Hornets Team News:
After a nasty midweek collision with skipper John Eustace, Dale Bennett will miss out.
Eustace escaped with stitches but Bennett suffered concussion.
Player to watch: Troy Deeney
Frontman Deeney has stepped into former striker Marvin Sordell’s place after he moved to Premier League Bolton Wanderers for three million pounds.
He now has seven goals for the season.
