Strikers missing for pre-season opening game

Matej Vydra, injured or leaving the club?

Derby County will start their 2018-19 pre-season warm-up games against Notts County without two strikers.

Matej Vydra and Chris Martin both have injury problems that are keeping them out of the squad, or could it be they are being left out of the squad because of transfer speculation?

It is well known that Vydra is wanted by Leeds United but recent stalling in the transfer deal has put doubt on the move. The official reason for Vydra’s exclusion is a slight groin problem, which he was said to have picked up at the end of last season. Rams manager Frank Lampard has stated that the groin issue is slight and when fit he will be re-introduced to the squad for the rest of the pre-season campaign.

Chris Martin spent half of last season on loan to Reading. Does he feature in the Frank Lampard Derby County squad?

Chris Martin has a more worrying abdomen problem which has plagued the player for a while. There is also speculation that he could be the subject of a transfer out of the club before the transfer deadline of Tuesday 9th August, 5.00pm (loan signings up to 31st August 2018). Martin spent the second half of last season on loan to Reading.

Marcus Olsson is a long-term injury worry with a knee injury and Ikechi Anya has a groin problem that will keep him out of the Notts County friendly.

There is great expectation brewing as Derby, r should I say Frank Lampard’s Derby start their first game in just over 24 hours time. A huge following of 4,000 Rams fans will make the trip down the A52 to watch the spectacle and the Friendly is a sell-out.
