26 year old winger Tommy Smith has returned to Vicarage Road to rejoin Watford on a 4 year deal.

The fee for Smith, who was in the last year of his contract, is an initial £500,000 with add-ons based on appearances and Watford preserving their Premiership status.

I think the writing has been on the wall over the last couple of weeks – Tommy’s form has deteriorated quite rapidly, and he clearly had a move on his mind.

In many ways it’s a shame he’s left as on his day, he is an effective attacker with great ability to beat his man. However his final ball has often been his achilles heel, and has perhaps stunted his career growth.

Having said all that, he now finds himself back in the Premiership and back to familiar surroundings – many thanks for your efforts over the last 2 seasons Tommy, and good luck in the future.

  • not sure about this one , when we had him down the Vic before he never really shined, then he let his contract run, exactly what he has done to you boys now, looks like we have brought him for the right side , was he any good in that postion for the Rams?
