Jason Shackell has backed Mark O`Brien to have a bright future with Derby County after the youngster impressed the defender during his early season run in the side before missing the rest of the campaign through injury.

O`Brien came into the side during pre-season and then started the campaign in the starting lineup alongside Shackell before picking up a cruciate ligament injury in training that saw him sit out the remainder of the season. However, the youngster made a good enough impression on the former Barnsley defender to stand out and Shackell told dcfc.co.uk:

‘I didn’t really know much about him when I first arrived, but he played every game in pre-season and I was impressed. In every game he gives 100%, he is a good little player who is brave and has got a lot going for him. It was a shame he got injured, but I am sure he will come back nice and strong and fingers cross he will be ready for pre-season, which will be a major boost.”
