Former Derby County goalkeeper James Severn has earned himself a move to Scunthorpe United after being released from Pride Park at the end of last season. Severn has been capped at Under-17, 19 and 20 levels and spent time on loan at Eastwood Town and Tamworth but he has failed to make the break through to the first team having made only one senior appearance for The Rams. Scunthorpe manager Alan Knill had the youngster in for training towards the end of last season to take a look at him and liked what he saw, talking about the move he said:

‘We had him in through the season and we liked him a lot. For some reason it’s not worked out for him at Derby, but he’s been on their bench. It just so happened he was going to be made available at the end of the season so we wanted him to be the one. He’s a modern goalkeeper – six foot and really athletic – and he wants to come here and be better.’
