Derby County are reportedly interested in signing striker Johnny Russell from Dundee United after they announced that he would be sold following his reluctance to sign a new contract.

Russell has represented Scotland at Under 19 and Under 21 levels and has spent time on loan at Forfar Athletic and Raith Rovers before making his breakthrough at Tannadice. The striker was United`s top scorer with 20 goals last season in all competitions and in total has scored 58 goals in 174 appearances across his career.

Reports suggest that United have turned down a bid for the striker from an unnamed club and Russell looks set to leave during the transfer window with chairman Stephen Thompson saying:

‘Johnny won’t renew or extend his contract. We’ve been told that by his agent. So it’s a situation where we’ve got to look after and protect the club at the end of the day, which means that we should be selling him in the summer.’
