Roar on the Rams

|

The final game of the regular season is upon us but Derby County are hoping that three further games will be needed, in the guise of the playoff games.

The Rams only need a point from visitors Barnsley in the 12.30pm kick-off to secure the sixth and final place. A feat already quite amazing after wins over Cardiff and a battling draw over Aston Villa. The season, however, is over forty-six games, each one as important as the next.

The Golden Boot, will Vydra win the prestigious award today?

With Barnsley battling to stay in the Championship the point will be hard fought for and Gary Rowett must make some hard decisions on who takes to the field today. Matej Vydra has a good chance to clinch the Championship golden boot award for the most goals in the season but has been left on the bench, coming on as an effective substitute in the last two games. Does Rowett start with his top striker or continue with Cameron Jerome as the front man?

Vydra is level with twenty goals for the season with Aston Villa’s Lewis Grabbon, but Vydra is slight favourite to take the prize as Villa have to play Millwall away from home and who theoretically have a chance to make the play-offs themselves but only with the Rams and Preston losing and Millwall beating Villa by a large margin.

Derby should, in theory, take the points they need for the play-off ’s but recent games against bottom three sides have proved disastrous, losing to Burton and relegated Sunderland.

It looks like a beautiful day for the game and Derby County are hoping for a Bumper Bank Holiday crowd to cheer the Rams on to victory.
