Chris Riggott has rejoined Derby County putting pen to paper on a one year deal after passing a medical on Tuesday. Riggott has shown enough in pre-season whilst training with the side he supported as a youngster for manager Nigel Clough to offer him a deal after recovering from a back operation earlier this year.

Riggott only played 45 minutes in pre-season but joined in with full training and is working his way back to full fitness, he has missed the last few days with a sore achilles and is not yet ready to make a first start after his return but Clough believes he will be an asset to the club. Speaking to the Derby Evening Telegraph in relation to the signing Clough said:

‘We’re pleased to have Chris on board. We have said all along that if he proved his fitness to us, we would get him signed up on a year’s contract. Chris hasn’t played for almost two years, so we have to be a bit patient with him in terms of getting back to match sharpness and secondary injuries he may pick up. He needs to get used to training on a regular basis again and playing matches but that will come. At 30, he still has plenty to offer, which is something he has shown in the short time he has been training with us.’
