Renewed interest in Rams attacking midfielder

|

The future of promising 19-year-old Ram’s attacking midfielder Luke Thomas seems to be in some doubt after Gloucestershire Live website reported he was close to signing a deal with West Ham United.

Thomas had signed a new three-year contract with Derby County in October last year and has been praised by Rams boss Gary Rowett after his exploits in the U23 squad this season. Saying in the official Derby County website WWW.DCFC.CO.UK That “Luke has been outstanding in the U23’s”.

Luke broke into the Derby County first team in November, being a late substitute for Tom Lawrence in a 2-0 win over QPR.

West Ham are reported to be willing to pay a fee in excess of £1m for Thomas but Derby are still in with a chance of promotion to the Premiership and if that happens this would trigger a payment to his former club Cheltenham Town of £50,000. Derby would also be looking to keep the young talent should they reach the Premier League and build on a superb first season with the Rams.
