Derby County and Fulham have been allocated a referee with primarily Premiership experience for their 1st leg of the Championship semi-final play game on Friday.
Roger East from Wiltshire is the referee in question, a man who has refereed 18 games so far this season in the Premiership, issuing 55 yellow and 2 red cards. Mr East has also officiated in the Championship this season. His 5 games have seen him issue 22 yellow cards and 1 red card.
Mr East has been in charge of just one game involving Derby County and was the 1-1 draw at Pride Park against Birmingham City on September 23rd 2017.
The EFA has also issued the name of the official for the return leg at Craven Cottage, this being 33-year-old Chris Kavanagh from Manchester. Only promoted to the elite referee’s list in 2017 but has already issued 96 yellow cards and 4 reds.
Kavanagh has not previously refereed a game involving the Rams, or Fulham so impartiality being a large part of the EFL’s thinking. Kavanagh also has previous playoff experience, being the 4th official during the 2016-17 League One playoff final at Wembley between Scunthorpe United and Millwall.
