Rams transfer rumours

Another defeat for the Rams on Saturday and it was another game without a goal. New Rams boss Paul Jewell has seen where the Rams need to be strengthen and the January transfer window can`t come quick enough for him.

He has been in this position before at Wigan and will know the sort of player he requires and the club has been linked to a number of players in the media over the past week but Jewell will neither deny or agree with the speculation.

“There is always going to be speculation as we approach the January window, not just surrounding this club but all clubs,” said Jewell.

“We have already been linked with a couple of players. I’m not saying they aren’t good players but I’ve certainly not spoken to anyone about them, and I will not comment on speculation,” added the Rams boss.

The Rams have been linked to a move for former Liverpool and Villa Striker Milan Baros from French side Lyon, but with the side qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions league it looks like he will not be leaving.

Another rumour is that former Rams midfielder Tom Huddlestone now at Tottenham Hotspur will return home in the transfer window, after failing to hold down a spot at White Hart Lane.

More media speculation has the Rams signing Manchester United`s young defender Ryan Shawcross. The 20-year-old has been on-loan at Stoke City this season and they are keen on keeping hold of the youngster.

There have also been rumours of players leaving Pride Park. Steve Howard has been targeted by Championship side Wolves, with Tyrone Mears heading to Anfield and Kenny Miller going to Birmingham or Scottish Premier League side Rangers.

One rumour that keeps cropping up is that of Giles Barnes. The 19-year-old impressed on Saturday in the 0-1 defeat against Boro and Jewell is keen to hang on to the talent youngster.

“I don’t want to sell Giles Barnes. But I can’t sit here and say he isn’t for sale because if someone offered me £25 million tomorrow I would have to take it,’ he said on skysports.com.

‘Obviously, I want to try and build for the future and he has the potential to be a top player. He has to go on and prove that.

‘I know I enjoy working with him because he loves his football, and if we can teach him certain things – the do`s and don’ts – he has a good future, and hopefully that will be with Derby.”
