Derby County have rejected two bids for out of favour striker Chris Maguire from an unnamed Championship club, believed to be newly promoted Sheffield Wednesday. Maguire joined from SPL side Aberdeen last summer but things have not worked out for him at Pride Park despite scoring on his first two starts for The Rams in the Carling Cup defeat to Shrewsbury Town and then at home to Portsmouth, the side he would join on loan and make eleven appearances for at the end of the season.

Rumours abound of a falling out with Nigel Clough or problems outside of his footballing abilities but for whatever reason it appears that Derby are willing to listen to offers for the player. Talking to the Derby Evening Telegraph Clough said:

‘It’s a bit of bad luck, really. He’s come down from Scotland and not settled particularly well. I think he’s found it tough in terms of adapting to life in the Championship.”

‘He’s not been consistent enough but he’s certainly got something, as we saw with a couple of goals he scored on loan at Portsmouth. If nothing happens and Chris is with us at the start of the new season, that’s fine and we’ll use him from there.’
