Rams new boy likes what he has seen

When names were being banded about in the transfer window one name was constantly mentioned – Tyrone Mears. Many Rams fans knew very little of the 24-year-old West Ham United defender, but Billy Davies was sure he was right for Derby County and signed him on loan from the Hammers.

Mears – Tye to his team mates – has liked what he`s seen at Pride Park and would like to persuade Derby County to make him a permanent signing, and start by helping the club reach the Premiership. He hopes to make an impression in the final nine games of the season on Davies and the Rams faithful and land himself a transfer to Pride Park.

He said: “I don’t really know where my future lies yet but I don’t think I’ll be going back to West Ham.
“I’m trying to prove to Billy and the fans at Derby that I can do a job here. I’ll have to see what happens.

“Billy’s fantastic – he previously worked with Rams manager at Preston North End – and as soon as I got the call from him, it didn’t really matter about which other teams I could have gone to on loan. I want to work with Billy.
“It didn’t go well for me at West Ham and I lost a bit of confidence, and if anyone can put that confidence back into me, it’s Billy.”

Mears joined West Ham from Preston for £1miliion in July 2006 but made only five appearances for the club before joining Derby on loan in January.
“I’ve got a four-year contract at West Ham but a few factors have made it difficult for me there, and I see my football elsewhere” said Mears.
“The signing of Lucas Neill and the fact that my family can’t come and live with me in London has played a big part.

“I have a fiancée, who is at university and a 10-month-old son in Manchester, so they couldn’t move down to London.
“Family’s really important to me and, at Derby, and I’m a lot closer to them.”

Only time will tell if Tye is offered a permeant move to the East Midlands, in the meantime he will be doing his best for the white shirt and hoping to lift the Rams back into the Premiership.
