Derby seem likely to do business with Leeds in the transfer window.

The Rams will be reluctant to let Tommy Smith leave Pride Park, but Leeds are expected to table a bid for the 25-year-old wide midfielder-cum-striker nevetheless.

Smith was linked with Leeds before he left Sunderland to join Derby in June 2004.

Derby boss Phil Brown commented to the Evening Telegraph: ‘Players doing well will command interest from clubs and not just in the Championship, but also the Premiership.

‘Tommy is playing well enough to attract interest.’

He added: ‘I’m not about to do my business in public.

‘Everybody will form their own conclusions over who Leeds are looking at, but it is my job to keep that in-house.’

Derby could do worse than try to bring in Michael Ricketts, who has been on fire while on loan at Cardiff.

The former England international wants to move from Leeds to a Premiership club in January, but hasn’t ruled out staying in the Championship.
