Emanuel Villa looks like being Paul Jewell`s first signing for the Rams, the Argentinean striker will complete a £2 million move to Pride Park this week and Jewell is also keen on bringing the controversial Egyptian midfielder Hossam Ghaly to the club from Tottenham Hotspur.

The 26-year-old who has not figured for Spurs this term, but was a regular at White Hart Lane last season. But his future was left in doubt after he pulled off his shirt and threw it to the ground after being substituted during a match against Blackburn in May. The Egyptian international apologised to his team mates at the time but has not played for Tottenham since.

He was in the news again later in the season when a £3m move to Birmingham City fell through when Ghaly had objections to their training methods, and Birmingham announced they would not be completing the deal.

A stumbling block to the move could be Ghaly`s participation in the African Cup of Nations later this month with Egypt, meaning the midfielder would be away for a month of football. He certainly comes with some baggage but is a quality player.

He has been capped 21 times by Egypt, and has been training with his old club Al Ahly to maintain his fitness ahead of African Cup of Nations.

Another player Jewell is keen on is Blackburn Rovers midfielder Robbie Savage, but he has plenty of opposition with Sunderland favourites to sign him.

Black Cats boss Roy Keane hopes to sign the 33-year-old Welsh international and it`s understood that Sunderland have offered £1m for the midfielder but Rovers are holding out for £2m.

‘There has been some contact between our chairman John Williams and Sunderland about Robbie,’ said Mark Hughes.

‘But my understanding is that their offer is way below the value we place on Robbie. A number of clubs are keen on his services but only if they meet our valuation.”
