Rams confirm first transfers
Derby County have confirmed the first of the transfers, in and out of Pride Park. They have completed the signing of Manchester United midfielder David Jones for a fee of £1millon, the figure will rise on appearances for the Rams. The 22-year-old has signed a three-and-a-half year deal at Pride Park after initially arriving on loan in November. The midfielder has settled into the Rams starting line-up and Derby boss Billy Davies was over the moon, that the deal had been completed. He said: ‘I’m delighted to have secured the services of such a talented young player.
“I’m sure from what he’s shown for the Rams so far that the Derby fans will know we’ve signed a first-class footballer.
“David has settled in really well at the club and shown signs of his quality.
“I’m sure he will get better and better the more games he plays.”
Davies again stated the job has only just begun, and there is a long way to go at Derby County. He said: “As I’ve said so many times, we’ve got a long-term plan at this football club, so with his Jones` age, potential and ability I see no reason why a player like him can’t be a major influence in a Derby shirt.”
Jones has scored one goal in his time at Pride Park, and he is the club’s first signing of the January transfer window. He also becomes Davies’s second million-pound capture since he took over as boss in June last year, the other being the capture of Steve Howard from Luton Town..

Meanwhile midfielder Paul Thirlwell has left the Rams and joined Carlisle United for an undisclosed fee.
The 27-year-old has been on loan at the Brunton Park for three months and has made the deal permanent.
Thirlwell struggled to get into the starting line-up since his move from Sheffield United in August 2005. He only made 17 starts at Derby.
