Rams chase Latics’ Australian midfielder

More transfer speculation involving the Rams today with Paul Jewell reportedly set to sign former Australian international midfielder Josip Skoko from his former club Wigan Athletic.

Skoko, who was signed on a free transfer from Turkish side Gençlerbirliği by Jewell in 2005 struggled in his first season and went on-loan to Championship side Stoke City.

He returned from the Potters and Jewell was impressed with his form and he made a first team spot his own in 2006, and has played 40 times for the Latics. He seems to be on the outer at the JJB this season only starting nine games, and it looks like new boss Steve Bruce believes his future is elsewhere.

The 32-year-old retired from international football for the Socceroos in 2007 having made 45 appearances for the green and gold scoring on nine occasions

Rams boss Jewell has dismissed speculation linking the Rams with a number of players in the press. Those mentioned are former Rams, now Southampton striker Grzegorz Rasiak, Leeds United forward Jermaine Beckford and Aston Villa defender Gary Cahill.

“I have had no contact with any of those clubs or players,” said Jewell.
