Rams after a Dailly appointment

Rams boss Paul Jewell is still on the search for central defensive cover at Pride Park and a loan move for former Ram Christian Dailly could be the option.

The Scotsman is currently at West Ham but is struggling for a first team spot. He has spent a loan spell at Southampton this season but is now back at Upton Park and a number of clubs have made enquiries about his services with Glasgow Rangers already talking to the Hammers.

The 34-year-old is unlike most modern footballers, has he does not have an agent and negotiates deals on his own behalf, and move back to the Rams might tempt him.

The defender started his career with Dundee United before switching to the Rams in 1996, when Jim Smith paid £500,000 for his services. He played 62 league games for the Rams scoring on five occasions before joined Blackburn Rovers in a £5.5m deal.

Dailly joined West Ham in 2001 for £1.75m, and has played 133 league games for the Hammers, but he has spent the first part of this season on loan after finding his opportunities limited at Upton Park.

He has won 66 Scottish caps and has captained his country on 12 occasions.
