Nigel Clough is looking to add Premier League quality to his Derby midfield this season and hopes to bring a player in on loan.

Clough would like to buy but as players of the quality he wants probably wouldn’t be for sale he’s happy to settle for a loan.

“We have enquired already about a couple of players, with a view to bringing someone in on loan to bolster the squad.

There are not too many talented midfielders out there at the moment who are available to buy.

So we thought the quality a young player from a Premier League club could bring to the squad would be as good as, if not better, than anything we could bring in on a permanent basis.”

Barry Bannan had a very successful loan at Pride Park in the closing stages of last season and is believed to be one of the ones that the boss is most interested in, but Clough also has other options.

“Barry is certainly one of the names because we know him and he has already been with us, but there are four or five possibilities.”

Clough was talking to the Evening Telegraph.

Bannan looked the business for us last season so if we could bring in the Scots youngster again, and on loan for the season, this would be beneficial for everyone concerned.
