The Rams have today announced the signing of Celtic midfielder Stephen Pearson for £750,000 on a three-and-a-half year deal.

The 24-year-old was at Pride Park for talks with manager Billy Davies, who he worked with during their time together at Motherwell.
Rams manager Davies had a offer for the player rejected in August, and was a little disappointed he then said the player wouldn`t be coming to the Rams after signing David Jones from Manchester United. But Celtic are now willing to part with him, and Davies, a big admirer of the talented midfielder, wasted no time in capturing the Scotsman.

Pearson’s agent Willie Mackay said: ‘Subject to a medical Stephen Pearson will be signing for Derby County today.
Mackay added that Pearson had turned down a number of clubs to sign for the Rams. He said: ‘Stephen has snubbed Sunderland, Stoke and Norwich to join Derby. He wants to play in the Premiership and thinks he can achieve that at Pride Park.’
Pearson joined Celtic from Motherwell in a £350,000 deal in January 2004 but he has never been a first team regular with the Scottish champions.

The news is timely for Davies after the news earlier today that Jon Stead has been given permission to take to other clubs, after a bid from the Rams was turned down early in the week.
