Nyatanga heads back to Rams

Lewin Nyatanga`s loan spell at Barnsley has ended and he will return to Pride Park this week. The Championship side were keen to keep the youngster for a further month but Paul Jewell has acted quickly to bring the 19-year-old defender back to the club.

The Rams long list of injuries which includes central defenders Darren Moore, Dean Leacock and Michael Johnson means the Welsh international may soon be Premier League action.

Rams boss Jewell said: “”We will be bringing Lewin back and I want to give every player the opportunity to show me they are good enough to be here.

“Things can change very quickly in football but I would like all out loan players back to have a good look at them.”

Barnsley manager Simon Davey has hailed Nyatanga after his successful loan spell at Oakwell and believes the youngster has a massive future in the game.

He said: ‘It is unfortunate but Lewin will go back to Derby County now. We will send him back there with our best wishes.

‘Lewin has been fantastic for us this season and a great servant during his six months here. Hopefully now he will go on and prove what a talent he is by doing well in the Premier League.”

But the injury jinks almost hit the youngster in his final game for the Tykes at Scunthorpe when he was taken off injured.

Davey said: “Lewin was stretched off late in the game at Scunthorpe but looked a lot better in the dressing room. The physios seem to think that he has hit a nerve which led to some loss of feeling down his leg

‘That eased after the game and hopefully he will be fit to play in the Premier League for Derby next weekend.”
