Derby continue to maintain an interest in Blackpool defender Shaun Barker but wouldn’t match a reported £1m asking price.

We’re supposed to be ready to increase our offer, as we battle with Forest, but Nigel Clough says we wouldn’t go as high as £1m.

“I’m not quite sure what the situation is with that one.

But I think £1m for a centre-half is an awful lot of money to pay, so we will have to see where that goes.”

Chairman of football Adam Pearson isn’t in any hurry to make a decision on the issue of the 26-year-old.

“He is a local lad and we hope that might be something that is important in terms of moving forward.

There is no rush. It’s only the middle of June.

He’s a player the manager has said that he likes and is a good centre-half at this level. But, as I say, we are in no rush and we will continue to monitor the situation.”

Clough and Pearson were both talking to the Evening Telegraph.

It doesn’t look as though the Barker issue is going to be resolved anytime soon, unless Forest do meet that £1m asking price and we don’t?
