Rumours of a possible move to the Middle East for Robbie Savage to Beirut-based Lebanese club Al Ansar have been doing the rounds, but Al Ansar boss Builal Farraj has moved to silence these.

‘We invited him to come to Beirut and to visit the team just like we previously did with other football stars.

‘We have asked him to come and visit the team and check the level of Lebanese football.

‘We have previously invited South Africa’s former skipper Pierre Isa and he came to Lebanon and watched one of our matches.

‘It’s only a social activity that we do and it is one of our programmes.’

Builal Farraj was being quoted from an article from the BBC.

These rumours surfaced after it was revealed that the 34-year-old had plans to visit the Middle East.

It was also denied that Savage would join Brighton on loan, and he eventually did, so you can never write off anything but it would seem a strange move for him, even if he doesn’t seem to have a future at Pride Park.
