Mason Mount had to wait his turn last night as he was an unused substitute as England fought out a 0-0 draw at an empty Stadion HNK, in Rijeka, Croatia.
The Rams midfielder had a frustrating evening, much as his team did in trying to break down a stubborn Croatian side that beat England in the World Cup semi-final just a few months ago.
Mount will have gained valuable experience being around the full England set-up and it may not be too long before he is given his first taste of a full International for his country.
The game was played in eerie silence for the most past as Croatia completed a four-match International ban on fans at their games due to disturbances and racial problems during their games prior to the World Cup. Only the World’s press and 75 coaching and other staff from each side were allowed into the stadium. However, the ever-resourceful English following did get a restricted view of the game from a nearby hill and could be clearly heard during the game.
Mason Mount now travels to Spain for their return encounter with Spain in the UEFA Nations league.
