Derby County target Kelvin Mellor has decided he is staying with Crewe Alexandra after signing a two year contract with the Alexandra Road club. Nigel Clough had targeted the youngster as a potential signing and entered into discussions with the defender about a possible switch to Pride Park as a backup to Gareth Roberts.

It appears Clough is a little surprised with Mellor’s decision to remain with Crewe although the less said about his reaction to the press the better after he criticised the young player for signing the deal put on the table by his current club after less then complimentary comments made about them during the negotiations. The Rams are still looking to bring in reinforcements for the defence after the sale of Jason Shackell to Burnley and whilst Mellor was only seen as a potential backup in the fullback positions the search will have to continue ahead of the new season.
